Against: Some simulations tend to be as complex as the aspects of reality that they simulate: e.g. to forecast weather you want as many data and formulas as you can manage.

Maybe they try to be, but for complex phenomena we lack the almost infinite amount of data needed, and usually also a complete understanding of all the aspects of the phenomenon we try to simulate. Moreover, even when we do have all that information, making a detailed simulation is computationally too expensive to be feasible
